Meeting the people behind a renewable energy business brings a different perspective to its work. On 14 October, I had the pleasure of meeting Ahmed Al Sadi, General Manager of AST Advanced Energy Solutions, and Muhammad Aahab Sarim, Sales Manager. The meeting prompted a closer look at AST and the wider Al-Sadi Trading Group and a business story that connects decades of industrial activity with the opportunities of solar energy.
For SolarQuote, AST is an interesting company to highlight: a UAE-based solar business supported by a group whose history extends across power, engineering and industry.
Al-Sadi Trading Group was established in Yemen in 1991. Its portfolio spans electrical power generation, solar energy, security systems, aluminium and glass fabrication, elevators and escalators, manufacturing and investment. A company profile published by the Arab-Hellenic Chamber also describes business activities across the Middle East, Europe and Africa. That breadth gives useful context to the group’s involvement in renewable energy.
Solar projects bring together several disciplines: engineering, procurement, construction and the practical demands of operating an energy system. In that context, AST’s connection to a diversified industrial group is a compelling part of its story.
AST Advanced Energy Solutions is the group’s UAE-based renewable energy subsidiary, with a focus on residential, commercial and industrial rooftop, and utility-scale solar projects. Its stated ambition is to help businesses and communities adopt cleaner energy across the Middle East and North Africa.
What stands out is the breadth of its offering. AST describes an engineering, procurement and construction service covering solar projects from design through installation and commissioning. The group also lists renewable energy consulting and solar operation and maintenance among AST’s services. Together, these activities address the decisions customers face before a project begins and the support they need once it is operating.
Alongside project delivery, AST has an equipment distribution business. Its company profile lists solar modules from Astronergy and OSDA, together with KSTAR inverters and battery energy storage systems, serving the Middle East and Africa. This combination of equipment supply and project services gives AST several ways to participate in the region’s solar market.
There is also an encouraging emphasis on the life of a project after installation. In a public LinkedIn post, Ahmed described considering cleaning robots at the design stage and stressed the importance of maintaining reliable output over time. That attention to ongoing performance is a welcome perspective: the value of a solar installation is ultimately demonstrated through years of operation.
From a SolarQuote perspective, this is what makes AST worth watching. Its offering brings together solar project delivery, equipment distribution and storage, while its parent group provides a broader industrial background.
It was a pleasure to meet Ahmed and take the opportunity to learn more about the businesses behind AST. We look forward to following the company’s progress as it develops its role in the region’s renewable energy sector.
